Three Bean Turkey & Sweet Sausage Chili

Learn how to cook Tamika's family famous, Three Bean Turkey & Sweet Sausage Chili. We know...it's a tongue twister, but the taste is a CROWD PLEASER! This meal takes approximately 30 minutes to prepare and can be made under $10.

What Do You Need?

You will need a Skillet & Crock Pot

-1 Pound of Ground Turkey (You can substitute Turkey for Ground Beef)
-Italian Sweet Sausage (You use Turkey sausage)
-One 15 oz Can of Tomato Sauce
-One 15 oz Can of Diced Tomatoes (I prefer to use the pre-seasoned Basil, Garlic & Oregano)
-Onion
-Bell Pepper
-Sweet Corn
-1 Chili Seasoning packet (McCormick makes these)
-1 Can Pinto Beans
-1 Can Black Beans
-1 Can Dark Kidney Beans
-2 Tablespoons of Butter or Margarine
-Tortilla Chips or Rice

Let's get cooking...in stilettos of course!!

  1. Put 1 tablespoon of butter or margarine to oil your skillet
  2. Cut your Sweet Onion and Bell Pepper to your liking. I like mine chunky. I only used half of a bell pepper and about 1/4 of the onion
  3. Add your onion and bell pepper to the skillet (ummmm, doesn't that smell good?). Cook the onion and bell pepper down to your liking. I prefer to keep mine a little crunchy because I like the burst of flavor when I bite into them.
  4. Pull the sausage from the lining and add to the skillet.
  5. Once the Sausage is cooked thoroughly remove your sausage, bell peppers, & onions from the heat.
  6. Cook your Turkey meat thoroughly.
  7. Add the Sausage, Bell peppers, and onion to the Turkey meat.
  8. Mix your chili seasoning into the meat
  9. Mix in your Tomato Sauce & Diced Tomatoes
  10. Add your Beans (Kidney Beans, Black Beans,  Pinto Beans).  For my family, they don't eat a lot of beans so I use half of a can of each bean and freeze the other half for another meal.
  11. Add your Frozen Corn . This prevent the corn for being soggy and add an incredible burst of sweetness when you bite into.
  12. Grab your Crock Pot. Use it to make a chili and cheese "lasagna." Start with a small layer of cheese, then add chili, so on and so forth. You can let your chili simmer for 30-60 minutes, or serve it immediately.

In the winter I serve Chili over Rice with a side of cornbread, in the summer or for a fun party dish, I use Tortilla/Nacho Chips...the kids love it!
